Benefits of Group Exercise

Everyone aims for healthy body and want to lose weight without torturing themselves with these diets. But with the right strategy it’s possible to have that perfect six pack abs and body you’ve always wanted. Training to lose weight or to tone one’s body is a very tough thing to maintain specially when you’re alone and have no one to train with. It can get very boring and hence very demotivating and even if you use music to lighten the mood it can get very boring very fast. But when you’re with someone time flies and you actually enjoy the exercise as well.

Many studies were conducted in this regard and according to which participants of those studies gravitated to the exercise habits of those around them and in the journal OBESITY fat people lost weight quicker when they worked around their fit friends, also 95% of people who started off a weight loss program with their friends actually finished it as compared to those who started it alone. According to Dr Dian Griesel President of the public relations firm DGI “Working out in a crowd carries a plethora of intertwined benefits that include enhancing consistency, duration, motivation, conversation and inspiration.

Working out with others improves consistency because they involve commitment. ‘No shows’ and cancellations get noticed by others and positive peer pressure can help curtail urges to skip or quit a workout”. It also has a very positive mental effect as well as it develops a competitive edge in a person to work harder as hard as their equivalent or better performing peers. It also helps in pushing ourselves further than when we exercise alone. Also we can perform many exercises that we can’t normally perform in the beginning such as pull ups and pushups. And our partners act as our spotters as they can increase efficiency of our workout and also provide helpful tips as to how to exercise properly. Hence the benefits of group exercise is endless. As they help to strengthen not only our bodies but also our minds and relationships to others.

Fellow personal trainer Lia makes it a part of her fitness program with her clients (pictured) – She gets most of them involved (all ages) in a very specific and focused group exercise session. This is also a reason for the growing popularity in CrossFit across the world as it involves multiple people that are ultimately encouraging each other!

By following these strategies you will meet your body workout as well as weight goals.

Motivation and encouragement I find are the biggest factors. Hitting goals has a far higher success rate when your working with other people over just working out by yourself.
