Coronavirus Risks in Fitness

The current Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is no more an endemic disease. The deadly Coronavirus has become a global scare today. On December 31st in 2019, an unusual pneumonia case was found in the port city of Wuhan in China. It was due to an unknown virus that was fast spreading. The doctors were not able to identify the virus type until January 7th, 2020. By this time the novel virus had already affected hundreds of people. A team of specialists led by WHO declared that a new virus from the Coronaviruses family is responsible for the panic. The Corona family of viruses also includes the infamous SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and the common cold viruses.

The Coronavirus spreads when being in proximity to the infected person. The droplets released by the virus carrier during sneezing, coughing or even touching quickly target the uninfected person. The COVID-19 is extremely dangerous to human life as there is no cure yet. The epidemic continues to expand as there are 90,000 reported cases for positive infection and about 3,000 deaths globally.

The situation in the UK is likely to get worse in the days to come. The UK has 39 confirmed cases of Coronavirus. Europe is one of the most sought after tourist regions. The huge influx of people from all corners of the world has given rise to hundreds of positive cases recently. This emergency like situation has affected the life of a common man in the UK. The personal health has gone for a toss. People are scared of going outside even for essential activities like working out in the gym or taking a stroll in the park. The gyms in the UK are seeing less attendance these days.

The health experts have advised limiting the interaction with people having flu-like symptoms and continue carrying out normal day to day activities. The Coronavirus spreads like any other virus and if you can avoid contact with the infected person you are most likely to be safe. A healthy person can continue going to the gym to maintain good health. There is absolutely no need to panic.

What is Coronavirus?

The COVID-19 belongs to the family of Coronaviruses. This family of viruses is known to humans for a long time. However, the current outbreak is by a new virus known to cause some serious respiratory problems apart from the common cold. Like the other Coronaviruses, it has also come from animals. Most of the initially infected people had exposure to the Huanan Seafood market in Wuhan, China.

Coronavirus Symptoms

The affected people have mostly flu or cold-like symptoms. The virus also causes pneumonia. There is severe cough and breathing difficulties are fairly common. In the long run, the virus attacks organs such as kidneys, and organ failure is imminent. It is believed that the virus has a 14-day incubation period. This makes it difficult to treat the symptoms during the early stages.

The Risks and Precautions at Gym

People going to the gym must know about all the risks and precautions in these stressed times. This highly active virus can survive on objects for hours. A gym is a place where you also meet and interact with many people. You must take safety measures to ensure your and others’ safety.

I’ve devised a unique strategy at my gym to counter this health hazard. I’ve strictly advised people with flu-like systems to avoid gym time until they recover. There is also a limit on the number of people who can use gym facilities at the same time. This guarantees limited interaction. The gym timings have also been extended to evade any inconvenience to members. I recommend the use of hand sanitizers after every workout session. My gym has also put up placards and mini-posters with dos and don’ts that disseminates vital information about the spread of diseases.

What you should do on detecting Coronavirus symptoms?

You must consult your healthcare professional if you have Coronavirus symptoms. You should not panic. Yes, there is no direct medicinal cure available yet, but your immune system is well-designed to fight any viral attack. Most of the people who died due to Coronavirus infection were either children or senior citizens. Some of the people already had poor immunity.

A Final Word

The best thing you can do in these tough times is to stay healthy. A good immune system is the first line of defence against any disease. A healthy diet coupled with regular exercise boosts your immunity. It is highly recommended to continue going to the gym. The positive environment that a gym provides can be very helpful in de-stressing. You must try to educate yourself and others on the real facts about the Coronavirus. This can certainly stop the spreading of rumors. Lastly, you should not panic and reach out to friends, family and health experts if you need any help.
